Helen’s Casa Alde Fire (Information from Buda Fire Department)
At 11:27 PM on Saturday, March 14, the Buda Fire Department received a 911 Dispatch for the area of 100 Main Street. There were reports of heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of commercial buildings in downtown Buda.
Buda Fire Dept arrived on scene 3 minutes later at 11:30 PM to find fire coming from the roof at 108 Main Street, also known as Helen’s Casa Alde Mexican Food restaurant.
Upon arrival fire crews confirmed heavy fire coming from the roof at the rear of the structure. Buda Fire began fire attack and requested assistance from the Kyle Fire Department.
The fire was contained to Helen’s Casa Alde and determined to be under control at 12:44 AM. Adjacent businesses of Farmers Insurance, Mike’s Barber Shop and Brooklyn’s restaurant were checked for fire damage. No fire extension was found. Mild smoke damage was reported to adjoining buildings and businesses.
Buda Fire remained on the scene for extensive overhaul operations as the fire burnt through the pier and beam floor. Portions of the wood floor had to be removed to extinguish Fire that had spread beneath the wooden floor joist. Buda Fire Department Fire operations concluded at 4:37 AM.
Helen’s Casa Alde is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
