CITY OF BUDA CANCELS/POSTPONES CITY-SPONSORED EVENTS THROUGH APRIL 12
BUDA, TX — March 12, 2020 - While there are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus locally or in Hays County, as a precautionary measure the City of Buda has decided to cancel/postpone all City-sponsored events for the next month (March 12 - April 12). This decision was made after careful consideration for the public’s health and well-being. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests practicing social distancing during this time. We are encouraging residents to remain calm and continue to take preventative actions. This includes washing your hands, staying home if you’re sick, and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. Again, while there are no confirmed coronavirus cases in Buda, the City is erring on the side of caution. The following events have been canceled/postponed:
Buda Area Census Count Shindig - March 28
Buda Trash-Off - April 4
Easter Egg Hunt - April 4
The Buda Public Library has suspended all of its programming for the next two weeks (March 12 - March 28). This includes storytimes, afterschool and homeschool programming, adult programming, and makerspace programming.
The City of Buda is also taking a number of internal measures. We are boosting our janitorial services to include disinfecting of all services, canceling large staff gatherings and retreats, restricting employee travel, and our development services department will move to video conferencing with developers. The City will continue to work with our regional partners to evaluate this evolving situation and make decisions about future events, meetings, etc., as warranted.
We have created a website page with prevention tips and information on the coronavirus at https://www.ci.buda.tx.us/coronavirusinformation. The City will continue to update this page with the latest information from the Hays County Health Department, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the World Health Organization.
