Trail of Lights 2018 Display Preparations
The City of Buda's Annual Trail of Lights at Stagecoach Park is less than two months away and this year the trail will be open for an extra weekend. The Parks and Recreation crew is busy making many of the displays.
“We all help each other out with the painting. Not everyone is good at everything, but there is a little bit of give and take. It all works out," said Justin Wagner, with Buda Parks and Recreation.
The Parks and Recreation Department is "going to infinity and beyond" for this year's Trail of Lights theme.
“This year we are doing a 'Toy Story' theme. Several different characters from the Toy Story movies will be part of the display."
Wagner says creating the displays takes a lot of work.
“We get to teach the guys how to use the saws. It also teaches you how to get your idea from your head, on to a piece of paper and then on to a piece of wood. What we usually do is find a picture online and print it out. Then we will get a clear sheet and draw it on to the sheet. We borrow the projector from the library, put it on there and sketch it out on a piece of wood. We use the jigsaw to cut the wood out. Then we free hand all the details on the wood and paint it all."
Preparation for Trail of Lights starts in November at Stagecoach Park.
“It takes us roughly four weeks to put everything up," said Parks Supervisor Juan Mosqueda.
“This year we have added another weekend right before Christmas. So we are expecting big crowds.Trail of Lights has been a big part of Buda for a long time now. It is something the department takes pride in,” said Mosqueda.
We will be putting out additional information on Trail of Lights in the coming weeks.
