Green Meadows Splash Pad Video Update - June 13, 2018
Work is progressing on the Green Meadows splash pad. Public works has already prepped the spot where the splash pad will go.
“They are working on the foundation for the bathroom. Now we’re digging the beams and getting ready to put the plumbing in,” said Kyle Cain with the City's Public Works Department.
The City’s contractor, Vortex, Inc., is expected to start work next week.
“Vortex will put all their underground plumbing and electrical in. They will run it from the splash pad to the pump house and get all of their piping done. Then they will start working on the foundation for the splash pad itself.”
The splash pad is anticipated to open later this summer. It contains over 19 features, including water tunnels, directional spray jets, geysers, and other large amenities.
“There will be five or six inspections throughout the process just to make sure everything is right.”
Water for the splash pad will come from the Goforth Water SUD. The water will be treated by sand filters, chlorine and UV to ensure a clean water supply.
The splash pad is only operational when user activated through a push button system. Staff has the control over setting operational hours and features to ensure efficient use of utility costs.
Operations and maintenance will be done exclusively by the City Parks and Recreation Department.
While projects like this take time, our Public Works Department does a lot to keep things moving along. For example, instead of contracting out to the build the restroom, our crew is doing it themselves. This is common in many of the City’s projects.
“Most public works departments do not do some of the projects we do. We are just fortunate that we have this talent and we utilize it.”
We have a lot of talented people. They come from different types of trades and everybody knows a little about something.”
