From Capital Area Council Governments (CAPCOG): September is National Preparedness Month, and the CAPCOG 10-county region wants to increase resident preparedness by doubling or tripling registrations to the WarnCentralTexas.org warning system. WarnCentralTexas allows emergency personnel to directly contact residents by phone, text or email concerning a disaster or public safety event in their local area. This the first ever Central Texas regional community preparedness initiative aimed to increase registrations from 60,000 to 180,000 across the ten-county area during the month of September.
The Capital Area Council of Governments has partnered with communities in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson counties to bring residents and visitors WarnCentralTexas, an emergency alert system that can save lives and protect property during disasters.
Residents must register cellphone numbers and email addresses to get alerts sent to their mobile devices, but CAPCOG has already registered landline phones.
