Governor Abbott has announced Phase Two of his Open Texas plan. This includes bars, bowling alleys, beauty services, child care services, youth clubs, and more. May 18 - New, Now in Effect
- Child Care Centers may open with safety precautions in place.
- Massage and Personal-Care, Beauty Services may open with safety precautions in place.
- Youth Clubs, such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, FFA, etc., may open with safety precautions in place.
May 22 Openings
- Bars or similar establishments may open at 25% occupancy.
- Bowling Alleys, Bingo Halls, Simulcasting, and Skating Rinks may open at 25% occupancy.
- Rodeo/Equestrian Events: Spectators limited to no more than 25% of normal operating limits. Outdoor venues may operate at up to 25% of normal operating limits.
- Zoos, Aquarium, Natural Caverns, and similar facilities may operate at 25% occupancy.
- Restaurants will be able to reopen at 50% capacity instead of 25%.
May 31 Openings
- Day Youth Camp Operators may open with safety precautions in place.
- Overnight Youth Camp Operators may open with safety precautions in place.
- Professional basketball, baseball, car racing, football, golf, softball, and tennis leagues may apply to the Department of State Health Services for approval to hold professional sporting events in Texas. Spectators may not be physically present on premises.
June 1
- Schools will be able to offer summer school as soon as June 1, as long as safe social distancing practices are in place.
Governor Abbott added that the state has significantly boosted capabilities to respond to COVID-19. In the first half of May, Texas more than doubled the number of COVID-19 tests given in March and April combined. More than 25,000 tests are being administered per day with 600 testing sites in place. Texas has also distributed more than one-million face masks per day.
