Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery in Buda Making Hand Sanitizer - VIDEO
The Deep Eddy Distillery in Buda has converted part of their facility to make hand sanitizer for first responders.
“Really with just our extra capacity and the extra alcohol and the tanks and all of that stuff that we could use and that’s necessary in making hand sanitizer, our leadership and just personally we decided that we needed to support our community by making hand sanitizer,” said Marc Cavazos, Deep Eddy Distillery Plant Manager.
For Deep Eddy Vodka, helping first responders in their time of need was a no-brainer.
“Deep Eddy, and our parent company Heaven Hill, are no stranger to helping out in the communities for which they serve. So, with our roots just outside of Austin and the tasting room in Dripping Springs, we have grown supporting our community and our community supporting us.”
Deep Eddy is currently making sanitizer in bulk at the Buda distillery.
"We make the bulk sanitizer in Buda and then we are making the bottles into smaller packages in Dripping Springs. Dripping Springs has been shut down because of the social distancing issues with coronavirus, so we made the move to close that down in March. Since they’re closed, they have the capacity to bottle in small packages. What we send over in bulk to Dripping Springs is then bottled in 1 gallon and then 100 ml bottles to be distributed to first responders, hospitals, etc.”
Deep Eddy’s sanitizer is reaching first responders far beyond Buda and Central Texas.
“So far in bulk we’ve made about 6-thousand gallons of hand sanitizer here. That has been distributed mainly to first responders out at the Dripping Springs facility and then also here in Buda. We also have a partnership with H-E-B. H-E-B also being a locally grown business that reaches far throughout the state. We have partnered with them, so we have provided them with a lot of bulk hand sanitizer. They are using their distribution network to distribute to first responders, not just here, but throughout the state.”
During these difficult times, Cavazos says the gratitude, camaraderie and teamwork he’s seen has served as a bright light.
“It’s really exciting because people during times of crisis really pull together and that is what I’ve seen. Not just form the people we are supplying the hand sanitizer to, but our Deep Eddy employees that I see every day are so pumped about helping the community by making hand sanitizer. We Just want to thank everyone in the community, the first responders that put themselves on the line every day. Really just thankful that they’re for us and we want to be there for them as well in this time of need.”
